That’s not fucking localized. The exclusion zones around Chernobyl and Fukushima are very much habitable. The radiation levels are lower than naturally occurring levels in areas where people live.

  36. Depends on what part of the world you’re talking about. Vegetarianism has been big in large parts of Asia for thousands of years for religious reasons. Also, living on mostly bread with some vegetables wasn’t too uncommon in poor parts of Europe.

Also, the problem with the current reactors is that they are the same type of reactors used in ships but scaled up. There are problems that don’t happen in the smaller ones on ships that can happen in the ones built for power generation.

  38. Leo, learn to read. I wrote solar and wind. Most of the renewables you’re talking about is hydroelectric, which isn’t what most people advocate for, and even if it was being advocated for, its basically maxed out.

  39. I picked the two sources everyone talks about. I can rip apart other renewables too, like the radiation released by geothermal. Ok my information is a little out of date. However, I’m not impressed with solar and wind have tripled in over a decade with the kind of money they get, and it’s still a tiny fraction of the total amount of electricity we need.

  40. Nuclear produces fewer emissions than solar or wind. Nuclear releases less radiation than geothermal. As for the spent fuel, it’s we have ways to reprocess it or burn it in gen. IV reactors.

  45. Eric’s pessimism isn’t just annoying; it’s wrong. Humanity’s power to effect the world is growing by the day. Yes, that means the ability to destroy ourselves, but it also means more ways of stopping ourselves. Furthermore, I think people are wiser than Eric thinks. The president has made great strides in our relationship with North Korea and is trying to deal with the China problem using economics and diplomacy. Eric’s problem with the president, I would guess, is just the way Trump personally conducts himself.

  49. Your first point is just stupid. The amount of heat created by reactors is many orders of magnitude less than the amount trapped by CO2. If by a shit ton of waste, you mean orders of magnitude less waste than all other sources of energy, sure.
