  1. I'm 68 years old. In my life I have become aware of the dreadful things done to Jews (and others) by the Nazis. I've also learned about the terrible crimes committed against Jews by the Crusaders, the Inquisition, the English monarchy in the 12th century and in Europe during their wars to claim the French throne. The various pogroms by Russian Tsars are well documented as are the massacres by the "Whites" during the Russian Civil War. There is undoubtedly a long history of persecution of Jews which none of us should forget - especially those who profess the Christian faith. And we should all do everything we possibly can to prevent such persecution from occurring again. But we make a massive mistake in thinking that supporting the palpably evil Zionist state is any part of achieving that aim. It was created by dispossessing and displacing the people who lived there. It was born in the horrific orgy of bloodletting and rape which Palestinians know as the Nakba. It has continued to perpetrate horrific atrocities against the native population and is now stepping up those atrocities with a "final solution" in mind. The perpetrators play mind games with us, evoking the memory of all those tortured and killed historically by Christians so that, in our collective guilt, we look the other way while they visit similar atrocities on others. We have to resist this. The crimes against humanity they are committing have nothing whatsoever to do with the similar crimes historically committed against European Jews. Far from it. Zionists are continuing the very same process: That of the powerful oppressing and displacing the weak. They are dishonouring the victims of the Holocaust and Christian persecution. Thank goodness the UN is beginning to call time on this evil racist colonial project - through the ICJ, the ICC and this calling out of the IDF. But we need to press this home. It's not enough to simply make the Israeli state obey some international laws here and there. It is time for Zionism to end and for a full multicultural democracy to be created in its place.
