  1. I would never downplay Antisemitism. It is a vile throwback to (mostly) Christian animosity towards Jews as the murderers of Christ (it was actually the Romans) and as moneylenders and usurers (at times when they were actually forbidden to do anything else). Essentially, they have often been the fall guys for ruling classes who needed a scapegoat to escape blame for their own misdoings. We should defend Jews against antisemitic attacks both because it is morally right to do so and because it is in our own interests to look after a community which has historically contributed positively to society. But what has been happening over the last decade or so in the UK is quite simply a witch hunt. Time and time again we got commentators (including Peston) pointing out the number of people complaining about the alleged antisemitism of the left in general and Corbyn and his supporters in particular and exclaiming that there must therefore be a case to to answer. That, of course, is EXACTLY how a medieval witch hunt worked: The number of accusers was evidence in itself. Peston is no fool and must have realised that at the time. But he persisted anyway. He went along with it because it served his career well. I suspect that he is now changing his tune because he has seen the writing on the wall. The great corporate lie machine is failing to sanitise and justify the genocide occurring in the Levant and the tide of public opinion is turning. He simply wants to be on the side of prevailing opinion. Well, Hell mend him. You're quite right to call him out for his hypocrisy, Damien.
