It is indeed repulsive. I remember when this sort of outrageous callousness was only found on the outermost fringes of the Tory Right. It's awful to hear a Labour frontbencher speaking like this. But it's also stupid. Health and social care is not a zero-sum cost to society. It's an investment. Keeping people healthy not only means that they are able to work, creating wealth, paying tax and adding value to society in other ways but that their dependents and loved ones are too. And just living in a decent society which doesn't abandon those unable to fend for themselves is a form of wealth in its own right. You're not only bad and sad, Liz. You're an idiot too.
