  1. My son lived in Jordan for the placement part of his Arabic degree. He noted a tension between loyalty to the monarchy and opposition to Israel. It is one of the most conservative of all the Arab countries but there is a limit to how much the population will put up with Israeli outrages. The monarch has to walk a fine line between serving his US backers and not pushing his population into getting rid of him.

  4. ​ @trys3780  Which is illegal: "Watercourse States shall, in utilizing an international watercourse in their territories, take all appropriate measures to prevent the causing of significant harm to other watercourse States." (from the "The No Harm Rule/1" of the relevant 1997 UN convention.) Basically, the reason Jordan has to buy water from Israel is because Israel stole it from them.
