  1. Mandelson was THE originator of New Labour. He wheedled his way in under Windbag Kinnock and by the time Blair got to Number 10, he was the Richelieu character, the power behind the throne. He had probably convinced Starmer that he could blag his way through his dodgy past associations. Starmer, having no morality of his own, would be happy with that. He wouldn't be remotely concerned about Mandelson's behaviour provided it wouldn't taint the brand. It'll be interesting to see how he rides this out. Bet he drops him like a hot spud. If Mandelson is banking on personal loyalty, he's bet on the wrong horse.
