@Joanna-il2ur I've heard some pretty stupid theories about the demise of the working class in my time, but I have to say that you've slipped into pole position with that one. The fact that you don't blame Thatcher for the demise of mining speaks volumes, though. I would love to see your demographic evidence for the humble origins of Tory voters. It certainly doesn't fit the overlays I've seen of constituency maps. Though, if you mean actual politicians then you might have something. The Parliamentary Labour Party certainly has its share of middle class tossers with total contempt for the working class. I still think there are more public schools represented on the Tory side though.

@Joanna-il2ur If I called YOU stupid, that would be abusive behaviour. It would be an ad hominem attack. Pointing out that your argument is utterly silly, (which the suggestion that the working class dissappeared when mining ended demonstrably is) is NOT an ad hominem attack and therefore not in any way abusive. Atlee, Benn and Blair? Three stalwarts of the modern Labour Party there! But their non-contemporary status aside, are you seriously suggesting that most of the people they faced across the aisle were of "humble origins"? Really?
