  1. The notion that there is large-scale fraud in benefits claims is total nonsense dreamed up by spiteful right-wing "newspapers". I don't doubt that there are one or two people working the system. In my 68 years, out of the hundreds of benefits claimants I have known, I must have come across maybe two or three people doing this to varying extents. Catch them and deal harshly with them by all means. But to act as if solving this extremely peripheral and relatively trivial problem will have any impact on the economy is downright dishonest. And to traumatise and demonise genuine claimants in pursuit of it is cruel in the extreme.
