The Olso Accords would have given the Palestinians something akin to Transkei or Ciskei (look it up if you're too young to remember): Pretend statehood with no control of water, borders, energy distribution, defence, airspace or anything else an independent state would take for granted. The fact that Israel is now ruled by people who think that this was too much means that it has no future. It is no longer connected to reality. It is the attitude of people like Hotovely which means that the two-state solution cannot work. It needs to be ONE state - from the river to the sea - which exists for ALL its people, whether they are Jews, Christians or Muslims and whether they are of Arab, European, African or South Asian descent. We have to stop this nonsense about Israel's right to exist. No state has the "right" to exist. It exists with the consent of its people and in the modern world, that should mean ALL its people and its borders should be set by agreement with its neighbours. That is the only way forward.
