It would be funny were it not for the smug look on his face as he watched the parliament of a country which lost so many young men fighting against the evil for which he stood stand up and applaud him. But though we should fight the urge to laugh we should not neglect to point out that this is an indication of the woeful naiivite of those who give no thought whatsoever to the history of the struggle in Ukraine. We should remind them that the flag of the "resistance" they were so mawkishly lauding consisted of a hammer and an axe. Why? Because those were the implements used in the brutal pogroms this "resistance" mounted against Poles, Russians, Jews and Romanies - people who were dragged out into the streets of cities like Kiev, Lwow Kharkov and beaten and hacked to death in well planned and executed dawn raids. They should also be reminded that this brave "resistance" took a willing and eager part in the job of rounding up of Jews for Hitler's final solution and made repeated (but rebuffed) offers to fight with the Third Reich on the Eastern Front. Most importantly, we should remember that many on the Ukrainian side today, revere that "resistance" and we should be wary of what will happen when, as now seems inevitable, they "liberate" Crimea and the Donbass.
