Leaving the shocking inhumanity of such a statement to one side, the point is its stupidity. Poverty is not only miserable for those suffering it, it is also extremely expensive for society. The peanuts that are saved by this grotesque policy are lost many times over in the extra costs caused by ill health and malnutrition which include poor educational outcomes, increased crime and the wasted social and economic potential that each failed child represents. When the Beveridge Report came out, just over 80 years ago now, this was pretty much understood by all. Your comment is a testament to the dumbing down of society which has resulted from more than half the period since then being dominated by the numbskull zero sum economics of Thatcherism.

@georgebodley8068 I think you'll find it's either the same person or a colleague in the same trolling organisation.

@JH-lf4ql Wow! You really have to ask??? The statement "breeding families that can't afford their breeding" indicates that the commentor is talking about people as if they are animals rather than fellow humans and doesn't care about their fate or welfare. This is clearly someone totally devoid of humanity. But, as I said, it is the stupidity and ignorance of basic economics that is inherent in such a view that is important here, not the commentor's lack of basic decency.

@JH-lf4ql Yes. I assumed that. But, I repeat, the fact that you are devoid of empathy and human decency is not my point. It is your inability to understand basic economics that I am alluding to. Ultimately, throwing people on the scrap heap of poverty is MORE expensive and the taxes which you have to pay will be higher and the society you live in will be more unpleasant for everyone, including yourself. This is one of the reasons why countries with more progressive social policies are so much more prosperous than those based on the parsimonious zero sum false economics which the UK is currently locked into. By the way, no-one is fooled by your referring to your original comment in the third person. We know that you are the same person.
