  1. For at least 50 years, Israel has been in a position where it could have negotiated a peace settlement with both the Palestinians and its neighbours from a position of strength. It's always been clear that the Palestinians have been willing to negotiate and all Israel had to do was accept the same sort of co-existence that all sovereign nations have between each other. But that wasn't good enough. It's become clear that they not only want Gaza and the West Bank, they want to keep a sizable chunk of Syria, of Lebanon and possibly Jordan and even Iraq. Plenty of the maps of "Eretz Israel" circulated amongst Zionist fanatics (some of which are in Netanyahus's coalition) are available on the internet. But now it has crossed a line. It's behaviour even before the current onslaught on Gaza has led to it being investigated for plausible genocide by the international courts. It is losing support in both Europe and the US where loyalty to it was once unassailable. The weak and corrupt dictatorships that it so easily vanquished in 1966 are now strong regional players which have both military might, economic strength and diplomatic clout to be reckoned with. Its allies in the region like Sisi and the vile Mohamed Bin Salman are begging the US to reign it in as their own populations' anger about their complicity in Israel's crimes approaches boiling point. Israel's ship has sailed. The one-state solution - a democracy with the safety and integrity of all guaranteed by all states with a stake in the region - is now inevitable.
