You can bet that for Reeves and Starmer, like Blair and Mandelson before them, getting political power is just a rung on the ladder to the real payload: The lucrative speech circuits; the directorships; the consultancies. Getting into number 10 and 11 Downing street just gives them good salaries for a while. While most of us could not even begin to dream of getting such a pay-packet ( with the handsome, inflation-proofed pension that follows it), for them it is chicken feed. Blair, Mandelson, Brown and co have trousered literally millions since they got ousted. That's what Starmer, Reeves, Streeting, Lammy et al are really looking forward to.
