This move comes hot on the heels of the abandonment of the case against Ken Livingstone and Pam Bromley by the Campaign Against Antisemitism and, I think, for the same reason. Their accusations of Antisemitism are based on the so-called "definition". It's so full of holes that it would not survive any serious legal testing. Losing such cases would sink their fleet's flagship and the "definition" would consequently be quietly abandoned by all the institutions, both governmental and academic, which have used it to silence critics of Israel. It would also severely embarass people like Starmer who have weaponised it to such great effect. That would really be a disaster for them. This is a chess move: Abandoning a few pawns to protect their VERY vulnerable queen.
