It's quiet surreal but really helpful to listen to someone who is from a similar background to me but has made that journey to the centre of the power set-up without being sucked into it and absorbed. I'll be putting you book on my wishlist.

I remember, about 30 years ago, chatting to an academic geographer who was aware of this trend. He was exasperated because his colleagues simply treated it as a neutral trend; just something that was happening in the same way that soap operas were becoming more popular or no one wore vests anymore. It's actually a disaster, folks. This is our civilisation collapsing before our eyes.

A refreshing change from mainstream economists. Someone who actually recognises that excessive inequality is not only morally indefensible but also causes economic dysfunction. Decreasing inequality will indeed improve overall living standards. It's not rocket science: You put money in the hands of the less well off and it gets spent straight back into the economy, creating jobs and generating more wealth. Put it into the hands of the rich and it's "invested" (in other words, rented out) and actually removed from the productive economy.

Good. Makes sense so far and I'm looking forward to the next one. Are you intending to go into how wealth is created (not how it's accumulated)?
