  1. At the beginning of the First World War, British newspapers published stories of German and Austrian atrocities in Belgium. The one that has stuck in WWI folklore is that of Prussian soldiers laughing while tossing babies to each other on their bayonets. It was so ingrained that I remember my primary school headmaster, who had been a child at the time, recounting it to us as if it were fact. There is no evidence anywhere that such incidents ever happened but once the tale has been told it seems impossible to untell. The Israeli government knows this. These stories were concocted in the knowledge that the anger they provoked would make it well nigh impossible to challenge them once they had gained momentum. Similar techniques were used in Ukraine. It's very important that we continue to point out that no evidence exists so that these lies do not morph into historical "fact".

  3. No. Not "The Jews". This is the Israeli government. It would like to be seen as representing "The Jews" but in fact, there are many Jews, including in Israel itself who are leading the outrage against it.

  5.  @noeleneroodt783  Where has that been reported? Most of the "facts" reported by the press and media have been nothing but hearsay - some with a veneer of veracity but mostly exaggeration or outright lies. My guess is that this fits into the latter category. One thing that has been made clear over the last few weeks is that absolutely nothing which comes from the Israeli side can be trusted.
