@Minimmalmythicist No. It will mean less trade barriers for Scotland. The big players in the EU have made it clear that they will fast-track a Scottish application for membership. England will gain because it will have the opportunity to re-make itself as a nation - with a democratic constitution and a more outgoing economic outlook.

The trope that Scotland is a hand-out junkie is standard fayre from the right-wing media and never contradicted by the allegedly not-so-right-wing media. The remedy is simple. Let us handle our own taxation and spending. No? Why not? What are they afraid of? I think they fear Scotland might do it better and show that there are alternatives to the hash they are making of things in Westminster.

@karlarcher8773 Even under FPTP, Labour got a majority of seats last election. But with proportional representation, no party would dominate.

@karlarcher8773 Their recent success in Scotland was due to Tories and Lib Dems voting tactically in an otherwise low turnout, and, of course, it was under FPTP. But the main point is that an English Parliament would have some form of PR. Neither of the two main parties would dominate. That's the reason they don't want it.

@Minimmalmythicist Why would we lose it? Did the UK stop trading with the EU when it so stupidly left that? Do you think rUK is going to throw a strop and close the border or something? As if it can afford to stop trading with anyone! Trade will continue. Though, of course, when we join the EU, it will be on the favourable terms the EU has already negotiated with Westminster.

@Minimmalmythicist Why would there be "far less access"? Are you seriously suggesting that either government would want to erect trade barriers? Why would they do that? The EU has reason to restrict members' benefits to members. Otherwise, there would be no point in being a member. The rUK would get no advantage from restricting trade access for Scottish businesses. This is one of the Project Fear myths which make no sense on examination. It has as much validity as the suggestion that we would no longer get Coronation Street or Greggs' sausage rolls! Yes. Both of these were suggested in 2014! I look forward to seeing the nonsense they'll invent for Indie 2.
