  1. Absolutely fundamental. Over the last half-century we have sunk into treating that Chicago School "truth" as a moral guide: Its logic says that because everything works best if we all follow our self-interest, then selfishness must be a virtue in itself. Consequently, we get Neoliberal ideologues like Margaret Thatcher, Charles Koch or Ayn Rand pronouncing that greed is good and demonising the very idea of empathy - especially where it finds expression in left-wing politics or mutualism and collectivism of any kind. The irony is that, not only is this catechism of greed obnoxious and unpleasant in itself, it doesn't work. Its application has brought nothing but poverty and misery to the vast majority of the world's population. Time for a new approach based on empathy and kindness.
