Yes. "The ability to explore, explain and understand". That is exactly what children should be getting from education. I think I would add "enjoy" to that list but otherwise it's what it should be. But I can't help thinking that our venal politicians would fear nothing more than adults who could "explore explain and understand".

@abody499 Yes. I'm old enough to remember when early primary classes were to told to sit quietly with hands on heads, stand facing the corner when caught being "naughty" (a whole area of discussion in itself), and learn to speak only when given permission to. We'd always accepted this as a way of keeping classes orderly so that the teaching could be done. In fact, learning to submit meekly to authority and not question or interrupt WAS part of the teaching.
