Hmm! Yes. It's certainly the case that Trump fancies himself as a new Hitler. And there is certainly a tight-knit band of extremely evil people ready to back him up - though I would dispute that they are generally competent. Being good a raising a rabble does not necessarily translate into being good at governing or administrating. The myths about the trains running on time in Nazi Germany and Mussolini's Italy were pure propaganda. It was, in fact, administrative chaos. I suspect that, while the new Trump government will be extremely nasty, it will very quickly fail in nearly all of its objectives. The result could be the collapse of American power and that won't necessarily be a bad thing. Ask any Palestinian, Iraqi or Afghan. It will be a very dangerous time but the world's democracies are capable of withstanding it if they have the political will to do so.
