AI is potentially a good thing but.... The ruling classes realised quite some time ago that educating the masses for the workplace has the unfortunate side effect of educating them ABOUT the workplace. The more they understood what was going on, the more they realised that they could make a more positive contribution to the enterprise than just their raw muscle or brain power and, more importantly, they realised that they were entitled to a more equitable share of the fruits of their labour. That's why university grants were abolished and that's why, when the fall in the birth rate offered the opportunity for smaller classes in secondary education, government opted for shrinking the sector instead. Alongside this, advances in technology also offered the opportunity for a massively dumbed down entertainment sector for a dumbed down population: Junk food and Strictly being the modern equivalent of bread and circuses. Moving to the subject at hand, an educated population would not only realise the potential of AI to improve the lives of all and enhance democracy but also be aware of how dangerous it becomes if it is entirely controlled by an elite while the rest of loll on our sofas stupefied by "reality" TV and soaps and stuffing ourselves with awful snacks.
