Wow. This one has really got the Tufton Street trolls buzzing. Sunlight is the best disinfectant - and don't they know it!

@adenwellsmith6908 No. I think that enough money should be provided to staff hospitals properly instead of blaming over-worked staff.

@adenwellsmith6908 The opacity in the NHS comes from the Thatcher government's drive to make it work like a commercial organisation. What we need to do is get rid of the trusts and go back to good old fashioned democratic accountability.

@markwelch3564 Spot on. You also have to take into account the money they then put back into the economy with their spending and the contribution they make by filling skill gaps. A proper and honest assessment would reveal that preventing immigration is utter madness.

@adenwellsmith6908 I'm emphatically NOT blaming the staff. I'm blaming underfunding - along with the marketisation introduced by Kenneth Clark, of course. The creation of the trusts and "internal competition" has led to a top heavy system stuffed with accountants and administrative managers with financial targets taking precedence over medical care.

I'd go for that. It's clear to anyone that thinks that migrants a net benefit. The figure to prove it to the gammon would be welcome.

@adenwellsmith6908 Indeed. Central planning and democratic accountability is what is needed. The independent Trust system has produced nothing but corruption and rampant replication of effort. "Why did it fail to train enough staff? " Did it? Where does the private health industry get its staff from, then. Why should the NHS subsidise the private sector in this way?

@adenwellsmith6908 Ah! So you ARE a professional troll with the resources to spend on so-called "research". This is exactly why we need transparency.

@adenwellsmith6908 I think your word processing software has gone haywire, pal! That's pure gibberish. But I can answer your claim in the last paragraph and the first. The NHS has been one of the most successful and most efficient health-care organisations in the world. Its decline started when the Thatcher, Major, Blair, Brown continuum started applying neoliberal dogma to it. Did central planning and training work? Yes. Ask all the living people who would have died under the previous regime. That includes me. I would have died aged 8 (sixty years ago) because my parents wouldn't have had the money to pay for the care and treatment I needed.
