Starmer is the Right's candidate in the same way that Blair was in his day. The establishment have twigged the fact that their favoured party has now become so clownish and incompetent and that they think that it is bound to be replaced by the opposition at the next election. So they have taken over the opposition! The optimist in me tells me that they may well have miscalculated. There's no doubt that he's getting an easy ride from the press and media and is consequently getting a lift in the polls but I can't help feeling that he's alienated more people on the left than he will have gained from the so-called "centre". Let's see what happens in the local elections. It won't ( and shouldn't) be good for the Tories but is it going to as good for Labour as the polls would have us believe?
