The Palestinians are the descendants of those peoples, including Hebrews, who have always inhabited the Levant. Some of them retained their Jewish faith, some converted to Christianity, some to Islam. There will certainly be some mixing of people from other parts of the Ottoman Empire and outside it. That is the nature of empires but poor rural populations tended not to move very much before the end of the 19th century It is also possible that some of the post 1948 Zionist immigrants might have some genetic links to the place but DNA tests of Ashkenazi Jews in the US have largely shown them to be mostly of Eastern European or Central Asian origin. Such tests are, for obvious reasons, illegal in Israel.
