The idea that black people are easier to manipulate was a big part of the John Birch Society message. Fred Koch (father of Charles) was obsessed with the notion. James McGill Buchanan also concluded this when he was at UCLA and observed the behaviour of some black students. At that time, of course, they were all saying it in the context of extending the franchise and social inclusion to the existing black population but it's a very small jump from there to suggesting that diluting the "race" with immigration would make it easier for the "elites" (Let's face it. They mean Jews) to control. This is pure Fascism and it should be called out as such.

I was thinking part shaved coconut but boiled egg is good too.

"We're gonna bring it back to a level that it's never seen before". Reminds of my New Year resolution. I'm going to go back to all the places I've never been to....

As here in the UK, both parties would lose out from any kind of proportional representation. The Republicans would be split between neoliberals, the nuttiest of libertarians, genuine conservatives and outright racist and misogynist reactionaries. The Democrats in turn would splinter into progressive-lite corporate democrats and social democrats. Groups which had been heretofore excluded from aminstream politics like Greens, Communists and (sadly) Communists would become viable. The result would be coalition governments which would have to respect majority points of view like you have in many European countries. You'd get decent healthcare, housing, food safety, working infrastructure, civil rights for all. That's why both Republicans and right wing Democrats oppose it. It would end their racket for good.

Quite right, David. We're absolutely amazed by what you've got going on there. From here, it looks like you have a sizable minority (about 25-30%, perhaps?) who want actual fascism. Having said that, we did have Margaret Thatcher and Boris Johnson. So we have out moments too!

It's really scary. The sinister backdrop to this is one that was shared by many Nazis (including Adolf Eichman) : Israel as a dumping ground for Jews. It's a narrative which was also promoted by early Zionists (eg Chaim Weizman) who explicitly suggested that Jews in Christian countries were "uninvited guests who had out-stayed their welcome. The underlying suggestion is that Antisemitism is a perfectly reasonable reaction to this and the solution is not to fight it but instead to accept it and realise that the only logical solution is emigration to Israel. Zionists in interwar Germany were openly supportive of the Nazis. It is not a coincidence that the leading Zionists in the US are supportive of Trump. It is time to be very scared and to be very, very active in making sure that he (or anyone else they promote) does not get into power again.

What about MAGAs getting indicted by the DOJ over Jan 6? There must be at least half a dozen who are in jeopardy.

There's a disturbing parallel here with the conflict between the two wings of the NSDAP in the 1930s: Ernst Roehm's wing of the party, the SA (Proud Boys? Oath Keepers?) was vaguely populist and claimed to be mobilising German "workers" (actually shopkeepers and farmers) against "international capital". But Hitler, like Trump, had no interest in ordinary Germans. He needed them to vote for him but jettisoned them as soon as he got into power. The SA was replaced by the much more aristocratic SS and its members were either murdered or absorbed into other groups. Like Hitler, Trump is appointing people to powerful positions on the basis of their loyalty to him rather than their competence or experience. I hope Americans are braced for what he has planned - because there are no "adults in the room" to stop him this time.

You can almost hear Habba going "oh, f***, oh f***" over and over in her head. And there's the bit where she looks at the guy on her right as if to say "what we gonna do?". Then, finally, she decides the best thing to do is to step forward and say something; garbage as it turns out. It doesn't matter as long it stops him from talking. This is really funny.

Trump wasn't denying an allegation. He was denying an established legal fact. The fact that she doesn't know the difference suggests that the US really has to do something about its system for licencing lawyers.

Her books are given away FFS. Hardly anyone buys them. And that's not surprising. Her writing style is turgid and boring and her "philosophy" is incoherent and illogical. Without market bucking promotion by free market Fascists she would have disappeared into obscurity long ago: an irony which escapes people like Brook.

@Stonecoldfrank Do you mean "Atlas Shrugged"? Yes. Many years ago out of curiosity. Unfortunately, I will never get that wasted time back. The idea that there are people so twisted that they can relate to such garbage saddens me greatly but there is a logic to it. Greedy, selfish, and arrogant people like, for example, Allan Greenspan or Charles Koch quite naturally feel alienated from a society which quite rightly despises them and holds them in contempt. She takes their lack of human warmth and makes it heroic; sexy even. In the narrative she creates, their very inadequcies become the characteristics which put them above other human beings. It's entirely understandable that they relate to it.

It started with all the Koch-funded institutions identifying the religious right as a potential ally. They got them all fired up and got them to start voting Republican. It turned out a bit like the way the German liberals promoted Hitler to out-manoeuvre the left. The tool became the maker. Republicans are now faced with the choice of going further down the rabbit hole (towards Christian Fascism) or blowing the gaffe on the whole scam. Thankfully, an increasing number are leaning toward the latter. Hopefully, the remainder will get crushed.

Looking from the other side of the Atlantic, we just scratch our heads at the way you guys run elections. The fact that corrupt state and local governments can and routinely do deliberately skew constituency boundaries, arbitrarily purge electoral lists, reject ballots etc, etc,etc puts you in the same category as Belarus or Iran as far as electoral fidelity is concerned. And that's before you consider the anti-democratic distortions inherent in the constitution itself. I'm afraid the claim that you lead the free world is risible.

Innocent people DEMAND their day in court. It's the guilty who don't want to be tried.

We're watching with baited breath from this side of the Atlantic. Please, USA, the Democrats are far from perfect but they are the lesser evil by many many degrees. If Trump gets back in, you're looking at drifting into full-blooded Fascism almost right away. Project 2025 will not only sweep away all your freedoms and liberties, but it will also strangle the very mechanisms which make your economy work. It will take purchasing power away from the poorest, it will prevent the very immigration that keeps your businesses working, it will remove the safeguards which keep your air and drinking water clean. And when Trump talks about taking revenge on those who have got in his way, he means it. Expect people he doesn't like to get arrested on trumped up (pun intended) charges. Expect press and media who have carried stories he doesn't like to get licenses challenged. And expect all the federal law agencies to be stuffed full of his supporters. If you want see what that's like, just take a look at Putin's Russia or Erdogan's Turkey. Get out there. Hold your nose. Vote Democrat.

Terror directed against civilians is acceptable whether it comes from Hamas, the Azov Battation in Ukraine, the IRA, DAESH, the Israeli/Russian/US/British/French government or anyone else Hamas should be condemned for killing or kidnapping civilians and any response which does the same should equally be condemned. Palestinian children are no less innocent than Israeli children - and vice versa.

Ron should have pretended to be on the phone....

He's an imbecile. If he implements tariffs, other countries will retaliate with tariffs on US-built products. The US will lose jobs, not gain them.
1
oops! That should have read "(sadly) Fascists".

The boom in the Biden years must have been due to the actions taken during Trump's term. Doesn't it then follow that the boom in the early years of Trump's term must have been due to the actions taken during Obama's?

RFK's strength is that he's not Vance. His weakness is the fact that he's RFK. Choosing a sleazy mediocrity with a penchant for putting his foot in his own mouth in order to get a big donation from his patron (Peter Thiel) was not a good look. But replacing that mediocrity with an in-your-face nut-job who drives around with dead bears in the trunk of his car is even worse.

"So many things I said were debunked" Therefore they were biased against him! Alternatively, he said "so many things" that were untrue that they had to be debunked. At the other end of the scale he accuses her of lying because she connects him with Project 2025. He's literally asking for her opinion to be fact checked!
1
Indeed. That rankles with me too. "Couldn't care less" means that you care as little as it is possible to care. "Could care less" means that you care enough to be able to decrease that concern. As for supporting Israel, assuming that all Jews are Zionists is itself Antisemitism. Political preference amongst Jews is as diverse as it is amongst any other group. There are Jewish Fascists, Conservatives, Liberals, Neo-liberals, Communists etc etc etc.

All these people are extremely rich and powerful. We should take Ransome's recanting with a pinch of salt. Their ability to lean on her - even to the point of threatening death or harm to loved ones - is limitless. We should remember what happened to Epstein himself.

In the same way that generals always prepare a strategy to fight the last war, pollsters always adjust their calculations to fit the last election. They weight their findings according to trends they saw last time without considering why those trends happened. Conversely, they tend to miss emerging trends such as the stimulation of the Womens' vote as a result of Dobbs, the alarm caused by Project 2025 or Trump's felony conviction and the outcome of his civil rape case. It's dangerous to predict but it's possible that Harris will achieve a big enough landslide to head off claims of voting irregularities in the swing states,
