  1. It started with all the Koch-funded institutions identifying the religious right as a potential ally. They got them all fired up and got them to start voting Republican. It turned out a bit like the way the German liberals promoted Hitler to out-manoeuvre the left. The tool became the maker. Republicans are now faced with the choice of going further down the rabbit hole (towards Christian Fascism) or blowing the gaffe on the whole scam. Thankfully, an increasing number are leaning toward the latter. Hopefully, the remainder will get crushed.
