  1. There's a disturbing parallel here with the conflict between the two wings of the NSDAP in the 1930s: Ernst Roehm's wing of the party, the SA (Proud Boys? Oath Keepers?) was vaguely populist and claimed to be mobilising German "workers" (actually shopkeepers and farmers) against "international capital". But Hitler, like Trump, had no interest in ordinary Germans. He needed them to vote for him but jettisoned them as soon as he got into power. The SA was replaced by the much more aristocratic SS and its members were either murdered or absorbed into other groups. Like Hitler, Trump is appointing people to powerful positions on the basis of their loyalty to him rather than their competence or experience. I hope Americans are braced for what he has planned - because there are no "adults in the room" to stop him this time.
