  3. @sian8336 Cantonese is a LANGUAGE, not a dialect. Also, up until about 30yrs ago, Cantonese was the lingua franca of the Chinese diaspora. SCMP is a Hong Kong outlet; do you expect them to "push" Russian ???

  4. Northern Mongol + Manchu barbarians. Cantonese is more similar to Middle Chinese used during the Tang Dynasty.

  6. @irwanirwa4n794 No one is asking you to "care abt Cantonese" I, 96% of Hong Kongers, people in Macau + Canton, plus the >22.98M of the Cantonese diaspora will care + preserve Cantonese.

It was during the Manchu Qing Dynasty that China suffered her "Century of Shame". Mandarin was not used in the courts until the Ming Dynasty. BTW, what is "Madarin" ???
