@Huet Lam Those Aussie can't comprehend "focus + concentration".

@Commievn The text read "the village committee kept most of the gifts"; sound like they confiscated her gifts.

@Vanceqte It is called dignity/honor.

@WatchingMindlesslySince2006 Take your hate some place else.

@WatchingMindlesslySince2006 What condorX2 wrote was quite appropriate, because your initial comment was highly unflattering. She "looks ~9y/o" only to you; people familiar with Asians, know she is within the range, of appropriate sizes for 14.
3
@Simonio8 Not premature at all; she achieved @ a very tender age what many divers, twice her age still have not accomplished. Also, the "movie" can also document how - she wanted to help pay her mom's medical bills - dignified + hardworking her family is.
3
@Kevin Wong Yes. China made a movie about Peng Cai Jin, a teenage whom solely supported her family of 3, (2 disabled, elderly parents) while still attending school. The film is called "Caijin" (2021 Best Drama Movie I Chinese Movie), free on YouTube.

@prashantamrev4625 I think that was a mistake. China's Sport Program is free for her citizens. She started training @ age 7. Her mom was injured in an accident in 2017 (Wikipedia); subsequent to that time, she has expressed her desire to help with the medical bills. Stay well, stay safe.

@Infinite Reason The world would be so much better if more people adhere to your post.

Lovely sentiments !
3
@SuccessforLifester My apology. Yes, it was stated @ 1:04, but I think that was a mistake. I can't rule out, 1 of the reasons she started diving (besides loving it) was to help her family's financial situation.

One poster wrote the gov't is paying the mom's medical bills..

@torbjrnmelbye6823 Beijing pays olympians for their medals. Gold medalists get US$51,000.
2
@torbjrnmelbye6823 You are most welcome !
2
@torbjrnmelbye6823 I envy you. (I don't live in China) Happy Retirement; stay well, stay safe !
2
@emilyl1094 True. Hopefully, with her incredible talent + the $51,000 from the gov't (I posted this), her family can soon move out of that village; don't need lazy, dishonest bums stealing the fruits of ones labor.

The worst is the Australian "News.com.au".
2
@Vanceqte Also, there is no need for you to post "some Chinese are very stubborn".
1
@beal5328 Totally agree.

Nobody reported that she made that decision @ 7, when she started training. Her mom's accident was ~2017; subsequent to that time, Quan expressed her desire to help pay her mom's medical bills. Even though it is extremely rigorous, poor families rightfully see participation in China's sport program as a way out of poverty.

@WatchingMindlesslySince2006 Wow, what a wimp you are ! You can dish it out, but so sensitive + can't take it. Sonny, you are the one that needs education; try being unbiased. Also, China wasn't the country competing without their flag in Tokyo.
1
@SuccessforLifester They do, all the time, including in the US: Sunisa Lee + Simone Biles.
1
@SuccessforLifester To get to the level of Sunisa + Simone, the training has to be very rigorous. Former top US gymnast, Katelyn Ohashi reported she was fat-shamed by her coach, even though she still maintained her incredible skills.

@sz5263 Frequently, it is imperative for poor kids to be precocious, for the family's survival
1
@Lily Dev I applaud Dad's decision, even though I think some admirers offered non-compensated gifts/$. Would be very smart for Li Ning to give her a contract. She doesn't like to study; she should continue to prioritize diving, while completing her education.
1
Perfect prediction.
1
@godzillamothra5983 You wrote why it is best to reject these gifts/cash. Beijing will pay her for the gold medal + she will get many endorsements; won't be surprised if Li Ning makes this little angel their spokeswoman.
1
@torbjrnmelbye6823 We Chinese are very proud; we don't like handouts.
1
@godzillamothra5983 Also, it has more to do with appearance/face/honor, than the actual gifts/$. Yes, some greedy idols accepts presents from fans even though the former have more than they need; but this family is not avaricious + why place yourself in an awkward position of: - being manipulated by others - "having to" return a favor.

To Cantonese people + others: Gnar Yau !
