  2. @revaholic True, that we will always be the "perpetual foreigner", and even for those that have been in the US for 4, 5 GENERATIONS. WE ARE STRONG; we have + will continue to deal with this harsh reality. BUT, as you wrote, more importantly, BE VERY PROUD OF WHO WE ARE, and the success that we have achieved, like Dr Chen, in the US.

Michelle got 2nd billing after Jet Li, so I expected her to be more than 2 scenes; the producers/distributors tricked me + others, into thinking she would had more fights in the flick. You probably know she was the lead in "Wing Chun", w Donnie Yen playing 2nd banana; love the doufu tray fight!

  10. We, her fans, know how talented + hardworking Legend Yeoh is; for us, we don't need her to win an Oscar, to validate her brilliance. But I think 1 reason she continues to work, is that she wants that acknowledgement. Even though there is bias in the Oscars, I hope, for her sake, she wins it. (Besides Michelle, I am looking forward to Brendan Fraser getting one; both of them were in "The Mummy: Tomb of...Emperor.)

  11. She has worked extremely hard since her first big Hong Kong movie - the 1985 Yes, Madam. Back then, Michelle, and couple of other HK actresses, because of their foresight + courage, pioneered the role of the woman warrior.

That flick was a microcosm of all the compelling roles the Legend had played over 40 yrs: starting with Yes. Madam, then Supercop, Heroic Trio, Wing Chun, The Stunt Woman (where she almost died), The Soong Sisters, CTHD, Memoirs of a Geisha, The Lady(as Aung San Suu Kyi), etc

As she did In Hong Kong in the 1980 -1990's, she is presently challenging the "ole boys club" in Hollywood, breaking Asian + female stereotypes, she is a trailblazer, whom is true to herself: she is strong, smart, fearless, sophisticated, kind, beautiful, independent, confidant, gracious + always in appropriate attire; speaking with eloquence, humility + humor.

Considering that Michelle had done it all: action, comedy, drama - + even played the antagonist, she merit the win now, not just for EEAAO, but also for all the mesmerizing performance she has exacted: Supercop, CTHD, Memoirs of a Geisha...) Michelle deserved an nomination for her strong, but nuanced performance as Yu Shu Lien in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", (she made Ang Lee wept in private, with 1 of her scenes) but she never received that recognition, because of the bias in Hollywood. Right, it's HER time now, because it was long overdue.

  27. Michelle does not have the typical "Malaysian accent". If any, because she spent her formative yrs in London, + due to her most recent works in the States, Michelle has a British-American accent, which isn't a liability in Hollywood. Michelle is more tenacious than most actresses; she is a fierce warrior - not only in the Martial Arts, but more so in fighting for non-stereotypical roles, for older Asian women.
