  1. They CAN'T. Initially the West wanted to "decouple" from China; when they finally saw (like you, what everybody knew long ago) it was impossible, they changed their strategy to "de-risking". I hope the West de-risk themselves into a depression; UK already in a recession - went to Beijing to beg for aid.

Italy is only 1 of the 152 countries still in BRI, while many other nations want to join. I saw Signora Meloni's announcement of Italy's exiting BRI; she was quite apologetic + said she hoped for continual good relations with China. Italy's leaving BRI was pressured by the US - Italy will be the president of G7 next year. If BRI is such a "massive disaster" why is India COPYING China's BRI with Modi's puny indo-middle east corridor??? Even in your dreams, you won't see Indian building prowess matching that of China's.
