Focus; this is about Chinatowns, not African-Americans. (The most horrific lynching in US history was of 19 Chinese Men, not Blacks, during the 1871 LA Massacre.)

  4.  @metsrus  I will always hate Mao for his "Great Leap Backward" + The Cultural Revolution. But Deng Xiao Ping, whom was resurrected by his mentor, the great Zhou En Lai, initiated reforms which has led to 770 million Chinese escaping poverty. China is highly more complicated + complex than you believe. Also, the 1871 LA Massacre was extremely barbaric.

  6. @tanjongmalim6869 Little Italy borders Manhattan's Chinatown; there is a Koreatown circa 32nd St + in LA + Philly, as well as the suburb of Palisades Pk, NJ. Coney Island + nearby areas, are homes to Ukrainian + Russian-Americans.

  7. It is a working class community - far from "disgusting". It is safer than many neighborhoods in NYC; criminal elements are usually outsiders, + homeless people the mayor won't manage.

You probably know that Filipinos were the first "modern" Asians to arrive in North America; they came in 1587, with the Spaniards to Morro Bay, CA.   9.  @metsrus  But you can't deny with our Asian faces, we had to endure more racism than most European immigrants; prime example is the recent Asian Hate, secondary to the pandemic (+ Trump). Fifth generation Chinese/Asian-Americans had no control over a virus, that was first identified in Wuhan. I know that despite all the challenges, we are doing well, primarily because so much of our time + energy are invested in education. But that doesn't mean we should forget the formidable struggles early Chinese-Americans encountered. Preserving Chinatowns is a way to remember what my forefathers had to overcome. Again, "home" for fifth + fourth generation Chinese-American is the US, not China.

  11. Not necessarily true. Presently there are less Cantonese immigrants, but there still are Mandarin-speaking ones, leading to couple of more recent Chinatowns in Queens, NY + Brooklyn.

Then these Ancestral Native Americans mixed with North Eurasians, 25,000-20,000 yrs ago, to form the Native American population, whom crossed the land bridge approx 20,000 yrs ago.

  19. WRONG !!! Not "failed to assimilate", but WERE PREVENTED from it, bc of bigotry ! Even though 80% of the Pacific Central Railroad were Chinese, specifically Toisanese, we were still ostracized. During the dreadful 1871 LA Massacre, 19 Chinese men were lynched, the largest lynching in US history. It you want to be a banana, fine, but don't go around dispaarging Chinatowns. I am very proud of my Toisanese roots, + I am a physician.

Like this video emphasized, because of the historical racism confronted by early Chinese Americans, Chinatowns emerged as a result, a haven for these immigrants to work + thrive. Actually Little Italy is quite similar to Chinatown, but much smaller. The above-mentioned Palisades Pk, NJ, is 65% Korean, incredible considering that significant Korean immigration only started approx 30 yrs ago. (In Wikipedia, the suburb is also listed with it's Korean name.)

In reference to addressing hate against Chinese, there is an Indian Republican Presidential candidate, Vivek Ramaswarmy now telling Americans that China is responsible for all their economic difficulties. It is fearmongering, a new iteration of the xenophobic "Yellow Peril" that Chinese Americans have encountered TOO OFTEN. Columbia U (NYC) found in a study that 74% of Chinese Americans have faced hate + violence in the last year. What is incredible is that Vivek is saying he is the best candidate to "unite America" - I want to vomit. What is even more upsetting is Andrew Yang HAS NOT confronted Vivek. (I think Yang might have some connection to Columbia.) Does Yang really think that when people see his face, they will know his parents were Taiwanese ??? During the Covid hate, even some Sikhs were attacked. I am trying to post on Vivek's videos, writing that he is mendacious + manipulative; one dumb poster thought I wrote he, the poster, is "manipulative". These are the type of people that will believe any + all lies that Vivek rants out.

(probably also cheap laborers) Simultaneously, the US is not really interested in resolving conflicts among the many groups here - it is the policy of Divide and Rule; keep the American people fighting among themselves, so distracted they won't see the real culprits - corporations and the multinationals, which are pushing ever increasing number of Americans into poverty, while they continue to gross their obscene profits.
