17:29 Sorry, but I must respectfully disagree with you on one of your premises--technology is still an issue. 3 minutes for filling up gas compared to 30 minutes at a minimum for "fast charging" electric is a deal breaker for many. That would add 15-20 hours to a cross country trip. Might I suggest easily removable and interchangeable batteries? Gas stations could be repurposed to be battery exchange stations. You either pay a monthly subscription to the company or pay a fee like you would for gas upon arrival. The attendant would take out your drained battery and put on charger with others, and put in a charged battery into your vehicle. Fast service, 3-5 minutes. You're welcome.

How about just throwing up catenary wire? Us already has overhead lines In most places. Stick a pantograph on top of the cars and voila...externally powered vehicle. No charging or refuelling ever. Just like electric trains.
