  2.  @abas1237  It did take a while though. Just like with south Korea. They were capitalist dictatorships in contrast to the communist dictatorships of the mainland and the north, respectively. Luckily, they democratized by the 90s.

  4. The world agreed until 1971. Through a wierd rule, Taiwan lost its security council seat to china, and then was kicked out of the UN. Imagine if this would happen to the US. Guam, a us territory, claims its the true govt of the US, could use that same rule for Guam to take the UN security council seat away from the us and then the us gets kicked out of the UN .

  12.  @CocoTaveras8975  Unsure. In 1897, many countries of the British empire were defacto independent. Only foreign policy (through the british parliament) and the crown could override the local parliament. As such, it might be just on Britain herself.

  14. China is free to assume more power in Hong Kong, just like the us, UK, etc are free to offer residency and other visas to hong kongers. Why are the Chinese interfering in this internal american, British, etc affairs?

Here's what I dont understand: I would think china would be thrilled at the UK, Australia, etc issuing and offering visas and other things to Hong Kong residents who want to get the h-ll out of dodge. Theyre the ones that would cause the most trouble to china, you know - democracy and free speech activists. China should be thanking those countries for offering to get rid of the democrats and free speechers. Frees up space in Chinese prisons for ethnic minorities and unapproved religious sects.
