  1. They actually are doing pretty well. Every country has its own dark history, even up to modern times, each tailored to events and situations at home.

  2. Actually, it was democratic to the point of no check. The courts aren't like the US or even Germany (judicial review). Citizen supremacy rules - the people are always right. They can ban anything as long as they have the votes. I doubt they could go as far as ostracism like in Ancient Greece...another reason why women didn't get the vote til 1971.
