A republic is a subset of democracy. Please see below. Not your fault for not knowing, american schools fail to teach basic govt. Democracy = representative or direct Representative democracy = Republic (elected or appointed head of state) or monarchy (hereditary head of state) Republic = parliamentary, presidential, et al.

@tihbm Very indirect. The European council (comprised of heads of govt of the member states - themselves mostly indirectly elected from member state parliaments) nominated her, and the european parliament (MEPs directly elected by all citizens in eu for district) confirmed her. Similar to how the Swiss elect their federal council (collective executive). Funny thing is, many Americans and some brits talk about wanting more local govt. That's the way to go on the national level too. For the us, the senate would be the governor of each state direct and the house would be directly elected by people. The senate would nominate a 50-member executive (though the seiss were right with 7 being enough - by regions?) one from each state, and the house would confirm or reject each candidate. But why stop there? Local is local, right? Each state has a senate comprised of 1 county leader per county. The house is directly elected. State senates nominate and state house confirms the [# of counties]-member governorship. 😁😁😁😁

Some people listen with eyes closed. Subtitles don't show when resting my eyes or looking away (eg cooking, cleaning, other chores)
