  1. Shouldnt the question be: why are federal income taxes so high compared to state income tax? Shouldn't the govt closest to the people tax the most? Shouldn't it be local income taxes that are the highest, followed by state income tax, and then the lowest income tax from the federal govt (think 1.5% - 3% like many states rates)? That would allow cities and counties to raise enough funds for universal public healthcare, housing, education for residents, should they desire. And states too. And residents can storm city and county halls much easier in a tax protest than the us capitol.
