  12. Iirc, the relationship between govt and conglomerates (zaibatsu and later keiretsu) definitely helped. Remember that Mitsubishi and other conglomerates were originally founded in the 19th century by samurai clans that befriended another samurai who helped start the Meiji Restoration and the govt. Conglomerates typically have functional groups (eg chemicals, cars, electronics) with interlocking shares for ownership. Groups can have smaller companies with interlocking shares as well, with those companies acting like departments. One benefit of conglomerates is that when one corporate group (eg cars) is failing, the other profitable groups help to compensate for the loss.

  24. @SPΛΙΝΤΞR CΞΛΛ I appreciate that. I did look up and noticed this: "It is governed as an autonomous polity within the Hellenic Republic..." This means that it is not a sovereign state, even if Greece leaves it alone. UN does not recognize.
