on the german ship they are called soldiers. soldier means someone who is payed for military work. that's what that word means. just because the US makes up ship about what to call what doesn't mean every country has to do that.

what sort of drone would get inside contested airspace? remember this is not bombing sheep herders in iraq. modern armies clashing would work out very differently.

@YARCHLRL and none of them will get through a modern western air defense. you might as well argue that the US has 100000 cessnas... none of those toys have any capability beyond bombing sand people. they are slow, obvious targets also no, they are no easily replaceable. shit costs money and takes time to build. about as much time as the run of the mill ground-air rocket and much longer than a 35 mm gepard Flakpanzer/Mantis c-ram round. these little drones are also easy targets for even the most basic laser c-ram that are already available.
