  1. wrong. they explained it correctly. The name comes from german Thal -> Thaler and other countries used that name. In Saxony (where these coins are from) TH is pronounced as D so it sounds like Daler, the italians pronounced it Talero because italiens always put an O or A or I behind foreign words, the german emperor was also king of spain at the time and spain and it's colonies also produced this german coin which happens to be about 8 times as big/weight as the traditional spanish small silver coin. So the 8 peso Thaler coin came to the USA and was called spanish Dollar.

  2. "immediate payback" is not a thing with treasure bonds... they have a timed payback usually 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 30 years or something like that.
