  1. The referenda are another Russiaan blunder. However there was obviously a genuine problem from 2014 onwards. The EU should have leaned on Ukraine and Russia to sponsor a properly and independently supervised referendum. The borders of Ukraine were drawn up by Stalin with no intention that they would become the borders of an independent country.
