  3. Stalin grabbed a chunk of Hungary after WW2 and pasted it into Ukraine SSR, complete with a few hundred thousand Hungarians, who have had a bad deal since Ukraine became independent. It would nor be surprising if Putin has done a deal to hand back this land, in exchange for keeping quiet Hungary was part of the Ottoman Empire under 1683. After that experience they are wary about having the sort of migrant influx that countries from Sweden to France have had. The political troubles that are affecting these countries are making a lot of people look with envy at Hungary. Hopefully they will keep up the opposition to Sweden joining NATO.

Tax free zone, rail link from Alexandria to Tel Aviv, Halifax, Beirut and Tripoli, Freeport, international air hub, solar farms and winter holiday resort. It could become Singapore on steroids.   7. Brexit has just been a nuisance for ordinary people in the EU. The wretched Single Market means that there is a lot of stuff we can no longer obtain easily. This is not trivial. We cannot get English language text books for university courses in under six weeks from when they are ordered. I had to drop a distance course at a Swedish university because of this. It is also a problem for libraries Hopefully the EU will soon be history.

  9. A Ukrainian neighbour of mine regularly ferries medical supplies to the country and is in contact with people on the ground. They are losing about 300 people a day. There is a feeling that they are being used as a cat's paw. There is also resentment over the conscription of ethnic Hungarians. The occupation of the historic Kiev Lavra and confiscation of churches has also upset a lot of people. Support for Zelensky could collapse. The two parties ought to stop fighting and talk.

  11. The entire concept of human rights starts at the wrong end. There are no rights unless other people accept and perform duties, including duties "not to". If the Ten Commandments are observed, the question of rights does not arise. Legal frameworks could, with advantage, be reformulated in terms of duties. This would both simplify and improve public understanding.

  13. The history of this region is almost impossibly complex to understand. The conflict has religious overtones which ought to have been referred to. Armenian Christianity is not only ancient, but also holds to a different theology which sets them at odds with the Russian Orthodox. I don't know the details but but it seems to matter.

The Israeli policy of moving the grass is only way of keeping the lid on the conflict. The Muslim Arabs are the colonial interlopers. Before they came it was predominantly Christian.

  30. Nobody has asked the Swedes. The Swedish government hasn't had the confidence to put the issue of NATO membership to a referendum. Support is lukewarm despite all the attempts by the media to drum up the Russophobia. Sweden has kept out of alliances for over 200 years. The policy has served the country well. Our geography makes us of minimal strategic importance. When the costs are revealed and conscription is reintroduced, people will realise what a historic mistake this is. It also needs to be remembered that a significant proportion of the younger generation would not support being in an alliance with the USA.

  44. The EU trade and economic policies follow principles which were prevalent in the 17th century and were comprehensively refuted by the end of the 18th. These are the Common Agricultural Policy in all of its versions, the protected Single Market, Value Added Tax and the Euro. The EU also ignored its founding principle of subsidiarity. Schengen is a gift to criminals. You can do a crime in Malmö in the morning and be three countries away before the day is ended. There is also the fundamental incompatibility between the English Common Law system and legal systems in the rest of the EU. Sweden has suffered a fall in GDP. Inflation has nothing to do with shortage of labour. It is due to monetary policies.

Support for Zionism was negligible among European even in the 1960s. Israel was the refuge country of last resort. Ironically, it was the Palestinian leaders who promoted the Final Solution which led to the influx of European Jews after 1945. The majority of Jewish migrants to Israel are from the Muslim world ie not from Europe. Sorry about your family but they should not have supported such rotten leadership.
