The British negotiators are playing a dangerous game. The approach seems to be 'We will shoot ourselves in the feet if the EU shoots itself in the feet". It is not a sound negotiating position. The losers from tariffs are consumers and manufacturers in the country whose government imposes them. The UK government should announce that as from 1 January 2021, no tariffs will be imposed on imports. If the other side do not want to be as sensible, it's their funeral.

Brilliant liar.

If the UK government imposes tariffs on imports from the EU, everyone in the UK will suffer. And what would be the point of it? The losers from the EU tariffs are mostly in the EU. Let them get on with their stupidity.

What is the carbon footprint of this event?

Pity that SF does not have policies which would achieve the intended effect. Ireland's housing problem will not be helped by SF's policy of capping mortgage interest rates. Ireland's economy will also be harmed by Brexit; the UK and Ireland need to be in the same trading block as they have complementary economies and geographically close, which makes them natural trading partners.

Restrictions on outward flows will cause shortages in continental Europe. People do not buy UK goods because they feel sorry for the British but because they need them or want them. Continental customers will soon start to scream at their politicians. Focus on keeping out bads eg drugs and weapons, wave the goods through.

Once people get into a care home they are certain to be fed standard UK junk diet. In Swedish care homes, the diets are even worse. And they don't even get enough sunshine and vitamin D, poor devils.

Not a good prospect for us here in Sweden. The staff in our local supermarket were taking no precautions at all first thing this morning.

Boomer Galactica 25% of Ireland's imports come from the UK. Why do you think that is? Short of uprooting Ireland from the sea bed and towing it into the North Sea, how is Ireland going to stop being dependent on Britain?
1
Boomer Galactica Ireland is creating a problem for itself by cutting itself off from one of its main suppliers. The Irish will have to deal with the higher prices and extra transport costs. How much land and property in Ireland is still owned by the same British as before 1914?

@taintabird23 At the rate things are going, the UK will have to hurry or there might not be much left to join.

Too much high tech. It does not need a computer to tell a member of staff that a toilet is running out of water.

@Destshade What has the EU done for countries like Latvia and Romania and Bulgaria, apart from draining off their skilled people and criminals?

'Continent' means, in this context, mainland Europe.

And drink and swim in chlorinated water.

Please remind everyone how this started. Defending themselves with a brutal massacre and kidnappings. Hmm. As far as the Palestinians are concerned, ALL of the territory of the former British Mandate Palestine are occupied ie Israel as no right to exist. How is that a basis for a peaceful settlement? Sounds more like genocide to me.

Poverty and race do not force people to fill up their shopping trolleys with food that will make them ill if eaten regularly. Then there is the vitamin D issue. Don't the medics check whether their patients and colleagues have sufficiently high levels? It is probably the most useful intervention that could be made to improve the health of people with dark skins living in northern latitudes.
