  1. The entire tax system is a structure of fines and penalties for successfully engaging in legal economic activity. If you argue that taxes should be based on ability to pay, and equate 'ability to pay' with incomes, this is the result.Taxes on wages, goods, services and imports are all theft. Which leaves land value taxation as the only way of raising public revenue which is not theft. That is the Singapore and Taiwan way. But the last time there was a suggestion of change, the private member's bill was squeezed out of parliamentary time. Root and branch reform is needed.
