The resentment this caused has simmered for decades. At last the UK has got shot of this nonsense. The UK government must not replicate the policy after Brexit.

What point are you trying to make? The Irish starved during the famine because of the Corn Laws - a tariff on food imports, imposed to protect British landowners. In 1846 the Corn Laws were abolished by a Conservative Prime Minister, Sir Robert Peel. Abolition was the culmination of a campaign which had begun after the end of the Napoleonic Wars, and was marked by the Peterloo Massacre of 1819. They were reinstated in 1973 when another Conservative Prime Minister, Edward Heath, took the UK into the EEC. The CAP, which reintroduced tariffs on food imports, exists to protect landowners. Same old, same old. Who is choking on excremental propaganda?

@opus_workshop What exactly is the point of your question? The population of the UK needs imports to live. Literally. Anything which makes imports more expensive is negative for the people who live and work in the UK. Tariffs have the same effect as undue transport costs.
