  1. It has been like this since the underground opened. The air at Highgate used to be thick with dust due to trains with brake blocks coming down the hill from East Finchley and braking hard all the way. It ought to be better now that trains have regenerative braking which creates less dust. The characteristic smell of the tube is dust and a bit of ozone.
