  12. IF the climate is really changing, and IF the change is due to human action, the most likely cause is deforestation, not carbon dioxide emissions. Street pollution due to internal combustion engines and high level pollution from aircraft are separate issues. Unfortunately, regulations have led to the closing of passenger ferry services such as Harwich-Esbjerg as the clean fuel is too expensive.

The newspapers concealed the fact that it was mostly Somali and other immigrant youths and the published photographs carefully avoided showing who was doing it. It was like Palestine - no surprise, same people. Intimidation of this kind has long been a classic Marxist technique. You can read it in Solzehnysin's novel 'Lenin in Zurich'.

  14. The so called 'Greenhouse Effect', if it exists at all, works in a completely different way from greenhouses. Greenhouses work by preventing warm air from getting out by convection. The Greenhouse Effect is explained by a complex balance of exchange of radiation arriving from the sun during the day and escaping back into the atmosphere during the night. 'Greenhouse gases' absorb some of the radiation arriving from the sun at during the day and preventing it from reaching the surface of the earth, but during the night the gases absorb some of the radiation from the earth and re-radiate about half of it back to the surface again. The total amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is one part in 2500 which corresponds to a layer of gas 3 metres thick. I am still waiting to see the mathematics of the energy flows. I suspect that we are barking up the wrong tree and that IF any of the climate change is due to human activity, then the most important effect is deforestation, not burning of fossil fuel.

The mainstream media are scared that reporting what is happening will stir up feelings against migrants and migration but all that they are doing is to feed the rumour mills and destroy their own credibility. The migration induced crime wave in Sweden is another thing that is being kept out of the news. Even when the crimes are reported the criminals are anonymous.

  19. There are obviously a lot of problems with the police. Keep an eye on Sweden which has adopted a light touch approach. But this 'experiment' certainly raises the question of what an economy is for. So much of the economy seems to be about making stuff that people have to be persuaded to buy because they don't really want it, or have enough of already, or haven't got space for in their homes, or have to borrow money to buy it.

  23. Now that the subject has cropped up, medical staff should not be wearing uniforms except when on duty. They can bring infection in and out of hospitals in this way. The practice is a risk to both patients and the public. Staff should change into on their medical clothing when they arrive at work, change out of them when they leave and working clothes should be sent for sterile laundering.

It is one of the ideas that was refuted by Adam Smith in his famous book 'Wealth of Nations'.
