The so called 'Greenhouse Effect', if it exists at all, works in a completely different way from greenhouses. Greenhouses work by preventing warm air from getting out by convection. The Greenhouse Effect is explained by a complex balance of exchange of radiation arriving from the sun during the day and escaping back into the atmosphere during the night. 'Greenhouse gases' absorb some of the radiation arriving from the sun at during the day and preventing it from reaching the surface of the earth, but during the night the gases absorb some of the radiation from the earth and re-radiate about half of it back to the surface again. The total amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is one part in 2500 which corresponds to a layer of gas 3 metres thick. I am still waiting to see the mathematics of the energy flows. I suspect that we are barking up the wrong tree and that IF any of the climate change is due to human activity, then the most important effect is deforestation, not burning of fossil fuel.
