Rousseau is the basis of contemporary educational theory and has been since the 1960s.

Locke's theory of property rights is a reason why we are stuck between two alternative evils. It is, to start with, in conflict with Judeo-Christian principles. Rousseau just adds another layer of error.

Good explanation of the issues. Locke's theory of property ownership is fundamentally flawed from a Judeo-Christian perspective. Acceptance of the theory is fundamental cause of the intractability of contemporary economic problems. Rousseau's ideas are indeed even more flawed, starting with their assumption of natural human goodness. The theme is of course behind Lord of the Flies and A S Byatt's The Babel Tower. We need to get back to first millennium Christianity to find our way back to a coherent view. It is significant that the Locke/Hobbes argument arises at the start of the Early Modern period. In order to get a handle on this it is necessary to track back through the developments in thinking within the Roman Catholic Church after 1054.

"Property" is a deceiving term. Land is not capital but a gift of God, or of Nature if you prefer. Capital is stored labour eg the artisan's tools. The contemporary dialectic is dominated by opponents who share the same false assumptions.

Rights enjoyed are derived from duties observed.
