Two things I'd like to do: 1) test drive a RR on my local potholes, and finally see whether there is a way to make them disappear (and then dream of owning one!) 2) compare this with a Bentley, and see where we stand now in terms of comfort and quality, after so many years after the 'divorce'.   9. Hi Ted, I have mastered my technique years ago when I had a colleague who would very easily get car-sick with jerky driving. My driving is so smooth now that people have asked me whether my manual Volvo was in fact a slushbox! Plus I have to be very sweet with the Porsche when she is cold, and also the manual on my '74 Rover 2200TC is something else, and needs a whole lot of love and gentility. Smooth operator here!!!!

  11. The Integrale is a BIG LEGEND. The following over here is crazy!!! And I have to agree that hype in this case is SO justified. This is a car that is viciously amazing to drive, and devilishly intoxicating.

  12. Love how you call this a 'small SUV', while this would totally be a HUGE pick-up truck in Italy. And also, a 280-HP turbocharged petrol engine would totally be considered a big powerful thirsty unit in this part of the world where we are having take emissions into consideration, along with petrol that costs easily three times what you pay, and tax/insurance that is easily four times more expensive.... Car life is not fair my friend :eyes-purple-crying:

  15. Awwww. Gorgeous Lil car. We had one just like this one, in red. And we drove DISTANCE in it, happily, with no complaints 👍 it invariably puts a smile on your face!! They are still relatively popular over here, and still great for city driving. Thing is, if you know how to exploit the high revving little engine it's also fun to drive!

  24. Fab video Ted❤ I'm the proud owner of an XJ40, the direct forerunner of the X308. Amazing car, even in non-R form. Very fast and yet sublimely comfortable. To think that Jaguar no longer offers an XJ in their lineup is crazy. Criminal, actually. Not to mention the 'electric' madness. Wish we could go back to the often criticised Ford days....

  50. Wow!!! I drove a C30 as my daily for over 10 years! Cute, very cute, and VERY well built car. Pity mine was not a T5, but a somewhat slower, yet thirsty, 1.6L manual petrol. My dogs LOVED the airy glass-hatch!

  69. The R107 is indeed a true sexy beauty. The 560 is a real dream with that powerful 8 cylinder thing. And it sound so good. Not sure about the US spec additions like the double headlights, the far-too-bulky bumpers and the excessive chrome... No way this is an old man's car, if anything it's a sexy young ladies' car!!

  75. One of the few cars I have never really liked. It looks stumpy to me. But then again here in Italy we mostly got the 4-pot 2.0 liter, which was not only underpowered, but sounded farty-awful. This does not detract from an otherwise EXCELLENT video my dear friend, which I have enjoyed HUGELY.

  80. This car is easy and enjoyable as you say because it's a 'normal' car by modern standards, it's easy, simple, direct, un-fussed, and not a not crazy-fast monster like so many "perfectly un-usable" sports car with a gazillion of CVs, a numb steering and suspensions that will kill your spine.

Always loved a good old Commando! ...although over here most Commandos had a slow, noisy, Perkins-built Diesel unit that struggled to propel the thing even beyond 55 MpH....the black, sooty smoke produced by those things was worse than that of a 707 take-off I kid you not. Hey Ted, if that's the sort of roads you crave, you should go to Sardinia (Italy): the island is breathtakingly beautiful, with amazing beaches and a very empty, very spectacular, very wild interior. The roads are a driver's dream: curvy, empty, well-paved, with amazing views either on valleys, canyons, or the amazing coastline.

The Abarth is such a FUN little devil, it sounds great, seats two comfortably, and 4 adults on a short drive in an ok-ish way, sounds WONDERFUL, has enough boot space for shopping etcetera, and the loud pops and cracks (even on stock exhaust) are a very significant part of the fun equation to me. On B roads, thanks to the great road-grip and excellent breaks, it is not significantly slower than the Cayman. Yep. Agree about the seating position, which to me is the worst thing about the car, but the rest is really spot on.

  121.  @TedwardDrives  well, it did make all of the steep hills we have over here, but you gotta play with your gears, and always 'launch' it prior to any significant incline. Funnily enough it was a car to be driven quickly if not spiritedly when going uphill, for fear of losing momentum. But, yes, sometimes even downshifting in first even, especially when fully laden, but it certainly manages to conquer any Italian mountain pass - no mean feat.

  156. ...see Ted, I got to try the new 135Mi the other day (the 5-door FWD platform, not sure you get that in the US? similar to the notchback you drove..), I mean that thing comes with AWD and an autobox, AND 306hp, it's FAST but it didn't feel nimble and 'CHUCKABLE' as the old stuff does...what a let down...it felt heavy and cumbersome, and wayyy too big for its intended purpose. The 4-cylinder sounded uninspiring too. See, I know I'm probably an 'old man' deep down, but the old stuff feels so much more appealing to me... the new 'overgrown' stuff does just doesn't cut it for me...

More than any other car. He got to 240Kmh (150mph) on an a very empty Italian autostrada in Italy whilst driving it on a summer's afternoon in 1966...

  248. We have the 280HP Veloce variant with 4-wheel drive. It's an amazing car. If you get the Veloce I promise you won't miss the Quadrifoglio! It's so FAST and USABLE!

  249.  @vomErsten  I can see. The S3 is faster, lighter and much smaller. For a 'grown up' saloon the Ti Veloce is a pretty darn compromise, and is significantly better handling that the QV...which has a bit of a reputation! The Stelvio, being AWD is probably the better choice IMHO.. not a lot heavier, not a lot taller, but significantly safer and easier.
